Delayed residual overcurrent protection is suitable for backup protection against phase to phase ground faults, typically tripping through distance protection operation. The protection function can also serve as a residual current measuring element for high resistance grounding faults, continuously measuring residual current and comparing it with the set operating value QIN. The filter ensures immunity to interference and DC components, and minimizes transient overshoot. If the measured current is higher than the set value IN, the start signal STNQ is activated. Timer tN is activated, and the residual overcurrent trip signal TRN is activated after the set time. The general trip signal is also activated. The input signal BLOCK blocks this function. The input signal BLKTR blocks the trip signal.

The two current time stages of overcurrent protection TOC2 increase the possibility of rapid operation on nearby faults by using a high set current stage with short time delay. The low current stage is set with appropriate time delay to achieve selectivity of adjacent relays in the system. In networks with inverse time delay relays, the optimal selectivity is usually achieved by using the same type of inverse time characteristic for all overcurrent relays. If reverse time delay is selected, the timer tMinInv starts when the current is higher than the set value and greater than Low.

The current measuring element continuously measures the current in all three phases and compares it with the set operating values of the two current levels. The filter ensures immunity to interference and DC components, and minimizes transient overshoot. If the current of any one of the three phases is higher than the set value and greater than Low, the start signal of the low current stage is activated. By setting Characteristic equal to Def, the timer is activated, and the trip signal TRLS is activated after the set time.
