Motorola IPMC712 implements the hardware module of Ethernet APL field devices, which comes from software industry automation and aims to support equipment manufacturers in quickly and reliably implementing Ethernet APL field devices for the process industry. Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (Ethernet-APL) is a new standard for end-to-end digital communication in the process industry and is also applicable to hazardous areas. Equipment manufacturers will have to prepare for the growing demand of end-users for this modern data transmission technology.
The challenge now is to develop and certify new devices that support Ethernet APL in the shortest possible time to market, ideally without accumulating a significant amount of Ethernet APL expertise. As a ready to use and pre certified hardware for implementing Ethernet APL field devices, commModule APL provides support for manufacturers to address this challenge. The hardware module provides connection with Ethernet APL and application software, which can be easily configured to achieve the desired behavior of the corresponding field devices. CommModule APL is delivered together with the pre installed PROFINET stack. It provides configurable application data models and command mappings to migrate existing Hart and Modbus devices to Ethernet-APL.
This does not require writing a single line of code. The allocation of Hart or Modbus commands is accomplished through the accompanying commScripter tool. The commModule APL has passed comprehensive EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and environmental testing, as well as consistency testing of the Ethernet-APL physical layer and PROFINET protocol with PA Profile 4.02. It has also been pre certified according to ATEX and IECEx. These features greatly reduce the workload, risk, and time required for developing device hardware.
