The Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16I is a ControlLogix discrete input module. The module has sixteen (16) independently isolated input channels and accepts an input signal voltage range of 10-30 VDC with a nominal value of 24 VDC.The module is typically used to interface with discrete devices such as pushbuttons, switches, auxiliary contacts, and other devices that provide binary or switching signal status.
The 1756-IB16 is a single-slot module that can be installed into any 1756 ControlLogix chassis. It can be connected to any available slot except the lec most slot dedicated to a ControlLogix processor or communications adapter. Thus, the 1756-IB16I can be used in local I/O configurations as well as remote or distributed I/O architectures.
The 1756-IB16I input channels have inherent signal transition delays. For switching from off to on, the signal delay is a maximum of 1 ms + filter time hardware delay, where the filter time is user-configurable, such as 0 ms, 1 ms, or 2 ms. For switching from on to off, the signal delay consists of a maximum of 4 ms filter time, where the selectable filter time is 0 ms, 1 ms, 2 ms, 9 ms, or 18 ms. The module’s current at 5.1 VDC consumption is 100 mA at 5.1 VDC and 3 mA at 24 VDC, with a total backplane power requirement of 0.58 watts.
The module requires the use of a removable terminal block (RTB).The RTB acts as a termination point for the module and can be disconnected and reconnected to any module that supports the same RTB. This simplifies module replacement or relocation as there is no need to remove existing connections. The RTBs available for the 1756-IB16I are the 1756-TBCH and 1756-TBS6H.

The module’s current consumption is 100 mA at 5.1 V and 3 mA at 24 V. The module’s input delay time varies depending on its state (from OFF to ON or from OFF to ON). From “off” to “on”, the delay time is a hardware delay of up to 1 ms plus a user-selectable filter time of 0 ms, 1 ms or 2 ms. On the other hand, from “on” to “off”, the delay time is a hardware delay of up to 4 ms plus a user-selectable filter time of 0 ms, 1 ms, 2 ms, 9 ms, or 18 ms.
