S100 I/O communication is achieved in AC 800M through communication interface CI856, which is connected to the CEX bus through a backplane. The backplane TP856 includes a ribbon connector that connects to the bus expansion board in the S100 I/O rack and provides a simple DIN rail installation. Up to 100 S856 I/O racks can be connected to a CI20, with each I/O rack accommodating up to<>I/O boards.
The CI856 is powered by the processor unit through the CEX bus, so no additional external power supply is required.
